I designed this poster because I was sick of the stories in the news coming out of Gaza and haunted by the images of Palestinian babies—either malnourished, missing limbs, or dead under piles of rubble. Why or how is the aid from around the world that is supposed to be for the innocent children, women, and general civilians of Palestine not getting to them? Is Hamas intercepting it? Is Israel's government to blame? And what about that ceasefire that did not even last 24 hours? What can we in the U.S. do? There is a Hebrew phrase, Tikkun Olam (תקון עולם), which may be translated as "heal (or repair) the world". It is a Jewish concept that refers to the responsibility of humanity to act in ways that improve the world through social justice, ethical behavior, and kindness. I am a firm believer that social action and activism can and does make the world around us a better place, all of it an act of ahavah (אהבה), or love.
